It must be with great wonderment to you as to how in the world she has the time to write a blog when she has thousands and thousands of “Almost Famous” cheese wafers to bake. It is an issue yet so are the Holidays. You know I’ve gotta throw out a few thoughts about this meaningful and most delightful time of year. I’m compelled to get a little crazy beginning mid-Oct. into Dec. For the most part, it’s harmless, spreading bits and pieces of holiday anxiety here and there. The chaos seems manageable and inevitably we will all be fine…but, I admit… I hark the heck out of January!
Does this not confuse you the slightest little bit, or is it just me? How come, everyone, (yes, you!) that gripes and grumbles all year long about in-laws, forever bored kids, babysitters or lack thereof, (btw…where were Jesus’s grandparents on Mary and Josephs date night?), and making appetizers, yet suddenly they become ecstatically happy, I dare say downright blissful? When did disassembling and reassembling mantles, stringing tiny white lights and trimming trees become the best part of the year? When did mailing hundreds of family photographs with gleamy eyed children, clamping hands with proud parents dressed in immaculately color coordinating clothing, standing on white sand dunes with windblown hair and sunburned cheeks in the heat of an August sunset become the crucial expression of family love? (Ok Ok…maybe I have a few jealousy issues as well)…but are you not still holding down a job or holding down the fort, cooking, cleaning, buying normal stuff at the grocery store or buying socks because clean ones are not to be found? What has happened? Everyone is all of a sudden so frightfully happy. Where are my constant complainers? My moaners and my groaners? I miss, “I’m sick of my husband”, “I’m tired of my kid’s”, and “I need carbs back in my life”! Friends… come back to me…ASAP!
Look…my own kids don’t call….excuse me, I meant to say, my kids don’t text me every day. (I don’t care) I know how busy they are. And I am too. They may argue…well, not so much! (just making cheese wafers for the whole damn town). The kids can upload in a flash, download in a dash, deliver in a day, face time and snap chat away. Good St. Nick, pull in the reigns for this ol Grinch. I’ve got this! But if I don’t, I’m pretty sure Jesus won’t mind.
He is the Reason.
The other day Payton told me her favorite Christmas song was Pa Rum Pa Pum Pum. She said it was Pal’s (the “other” Grandfather) favorite too. I told her it was my Father’s favorite and mine also. I asked her if she knew what the song was about, and she nodded her little sweet head no. I told her it was about this little boy that didn’t have a gift for baby Jesus. All, he had were his drums. So he played his drums for Him. He played his best for Him. And then He smiled at him.
Payton smiled at me …Pa Rum Pa Pum Pum.

Your cheese wafers are AMAZING and so delicious!
What? Your offspring don’t call frequently to ask about you and your life?…I can’t imagine.
They will miss us when we are gone.
Tracy Gaines
Frequently when they call they “want” something…usually a babysitter.
And just as frequently they know I’m going to give them some of my expert advice…usually something about kids!
Funny how babysitting trumps…they call anyway!
btw…I think your caramel crackers are amazing!

Here is wishing you and Hooch a Pa Rum Pa Pum holiday and year following the best ever. I do hope I get some of those wafers….best in the country….tasting them now. That Peyton is all sweetness and sunshine. Merry Christmas.
