Let’s call the whole thing off!

June 23, 2015 by Tracy Gaines

gary in mountainsLouis Armstrong’s song, “Let’s call the whole thing off”, has been the story of my life for the last 39 years!
Gary planning a vacation is more comparable to a natural disaster, in my opinion, than a vacation!
I want to go to places I have never seen before.
Gary wants familiarity.
I want a lot of people watching.
He wants privacy.
I want luxury.
He wants activities.
Let’s call the whole thing off!

I have come to terms with the fact that a river, gravel roads, and a lodge will be involved when reservations are made by this man. If we are going to pack up the car…the only necessities are,
gasoline, hiking shorts, and a “nice” pair of jeans, just in case!

If you want to see Gary have an anxiety attack…show him a valet parker! He will park hundreds of miles away, to keep a young, college kid, from opening his car door. He will load 3 bags, and a cooler full of beer, onto his aching shoulder’s, rather than tip a bellhop, and a menu that has Normandy Sauce with pan seared scallops is over extravagant, in so many ways, he may never leave the room.

Our latest trip, happened to be an anniversary trip to Snowbird Lodge. No tv… only books, fireplaces, rocking chairs and sunsets. Guess who made this reservation!
We hiked wide open meadows on mountain tops, picnic lunches by babbling rivers, but mostly we were rambling on gravel roads. A little bit like life, everything wasn’t perfect, but I wouldn’t have changed a thing! Afterall…aren’t vacations the best when they are “all-inclusive”…

The unpredictable paths, the unexpected bumps, and the unforeseen beauty around every curve!

Tomato – Tomahto…no reservations needed.

My life IS a gravel road! Bumps, curves and beauty all inclusive!
