I want to write a blog about my sister. I find it difficult because I rarely do anything without soliciting her advise, and I’m afraid I won’t say all things I want to say with out turning this into some sicko-cheesy eulogy! ( I’m pretty sure she would talk me out of it because she is a master at talking you into doing what is right) We are only 17 months apart, and like most siblings “back then”, we shared EVERYTHING. We shared a bedroom from birth until the night before I said, “I do”. We shared Barbies, Diana Ross records, and an aqua princess phone with a glow in the dark rotary dial. I was 10…the best Christmas ever, and sharing a phone was going to be okay…talking is my calling! We went to the same college (as this particular institution didn’t look closely at s.a.t. scores…only b.a.n.k. a.c.c.o.u.n.t.’s) She transferred, but only 45 minutes away, so I could “tag along” whenever I wanted.
We even shared a boy friend… now my husband. Thanks Sis!
If you are lucky enough to have a sister, like mine, you never have to make decisions because she will do that for you. No need to ask your parents permission… she is the one you “mind”, and if you dare tell a lie make sure she is no where close by. My big sister was (and still is) the more cautious one, so I never drank, smoked, or cussed until she had tried it first. I am forever grateful…I observed, I listened and learned! As it turns out…I am actually better at some things than she is!
My wise sister is my cheerleader, and I was the cheerleader that never was. No one can call the shots, counsel, but mostly comfort me like she can. God gave me a sister that is prideful yet fragile, commanding yet consoling, purposeful, beautiful and skinny. Her heart explodes with generosity. Our biggest fight was when I screamed at her, as teens do, and told her she was “perfect”, as in “MISS” perfect! Today, I know no greater bond than the one I have with my best friend, my sister…okay…say cheese…she is perfect to me!
Big sister’s have such Big responsibilities! I am glad I’m not the boss of me!
Now your turn AK…Good luck Pay Pay!
